TIP FOR POWER OUTAGES

If you are away from your property when the power goes out, how will you know if it’s safe to consume food in the freezer that may have thawed, and refrozen after the power came back on? 

Place a small Tupperware bowl filled with water in the freezer. After the water freezes, place a copper penny on top. If you return from a trip, check to see if the penny is still on top.  If it’s at the bottom of the bowl, you know the power was out long enough to ruin the contents of the freezer.
